Ice blue is Rolex's signal that the case underneath is solid 950 platinum, the only dial color reserved for that specific metal across the Day-Date and Day-Date II lines. Reference 228236 introduced the 40mm proportion in 2015, replacing the awkward 41mm sizing of the 218206 with a tighter, more wearable profile.
Platinum-plated case in our build, 40mm with the fluted bezel turned from the same plated finish. The fluting was originally functional (Rolex used a special tool to screw the bezel down onto the case) before becoming purely decorative. Sunburst ice-blue dial with applied baton indices, day window at 12, date with Cyclops at 3. President bracelet with semi-circular three-piece links and the concealed Crownclasp.
